As part of National Bank of Kuwait’s efforts to stimulate the creative energies of distinguished digital talents by hosting and sponsoring digital events, the bank provided its platinum sponsorship to the “50 Women in Cybersecurity Hackathon” initiative, which is a nationwide competition in the field of cybersecurity and data protection organized by ESK Holdings and Mercedes Vazquez with the support of National Center for Cyber Security in Kuwait.

The hackathon was held on October 27 and 28 at the American University of Kuwait, and witnessed the participation of 50 women in teams working on projects searching for solutions to challenges posed by the bank around cybersecurity. They then presented their projects to a committee of judges and selected one of the winning teams.

Entries used tools such as real-time monitoring, incident reporting modules and communications platforms to solve problems, with the judging panel setting criteria to select the winners that included creativity, problem-solving ingenuity, innovation, holistic thinking and teamwork effectiveness.

This initiative, which is the first of its kind, aims to enhance the role of women in bridging the global digital gap in a field that is witnessing continuous growth for the sake of a flexible and prosperous knowledge-based digital economy.

On this occasion, the Head of Operations and Information Technology for the National Bank of Kuwait Group, Mr. Mohammed Yousef Al-Kharafi, said: “We are pleased to participate in this event, as cybersecurity constitutes one of the most important pillars of the bank’s path to digital transformation, and the bank also has a proactive cybersecurity strategy to meet the dynamic evolution of cyber threats. “Including a comprehensive framework for data governance, privacy and security.”

Al-Kharafi added: “In addition to introducing new features and the best possible experience to our digital channels, other important pillars that we are focusing on in the bank’s digital transformation journey include improving internal processes and creating a strong digital culture throughout the bank, which reflects our commitment to the utmost importance that the bank attaches to the security of its customers in This is an ever-changing environment.”

Al-Kharafi pointed out that it is important to realize that digital transformation is not limited to technology only, but it is also about people, culture and values that shape the transformation process, and it is inspiring to benefit from the experience of women and the extent of their commitment in this field, which was highlighted during this hackathon.
